Project CHILLD is located in Beverly, Massachusetts, at the Cummings Center, site of the old United Shoe Machinery Corporation. In 1903, this company built a quarter-mile stretch of factory buildings. Construction was completed in 1906, and “The Shoe” went into production, manufacturing machinery to make shoes. After more than 70 years of business as the main source of economic growth for Beverly and the surrounding communities, “The Shoe” closed in 1987. Cummings Properties purchased the complex in 1996, and developed it into a campus of high-tech companies, medical offices, educational facilities and much more. The center offers a variety of other amenities, including banks, restaurants, spas and gyms. The exterior boasts a beautifully landscaped property with walking paths around the ponds, fountains, picnic tables and grills.

Beverly, founded in 1626, is a coastal city in Essex County, located in Northeastern Massachusetts. Located approximately 17 miles north of Boston, Beverly is considered to be a resort, residential and business community.

Much of the ambiance that is Beverly is due to its history, its relationship and its proximity to the beautiful coastline. Residents of Beverly call their city the  “Birthplace of America’s Navy”, because the first ship commissioned by the United States Navy, the armed schooner Hannah, sailed from Beverly Harbor in 1775. Beverly is also the site of the first cotton mill, built in 1787, as well as one of the first Sunday schools in the country, built in 1810.  During 1909 and 1910, President William Howard Taft summered in a house that stood on the current site of the rose garden in Lynch Park, the city’s premiere public park.

Beverly is neighbor to several other towns of interest, including Salem, Gloucester, Marblehead, Rockport and Ipswich, all of which are rich in history and feature beautiful parks and beaches.
